You Are Not to Blame. You Deserve to Be Heard, Believed, and Supported.
No one ever asks to be sexually assaulted. No matter what you wore, where you were, or who you were with, the responsibility always lies with the person who caused harm.

Our advocates provide free, confidential, trauma-informed support to anyone affected by sexual violence. We serve individuals of all genders, ages, and backgrounds across Ashland, Bayfield, Iron, and Sawyer Counties.
Understanding Sexual Assault: Key Definitions
Sexual Assault – Any unwanted sexual contact or activity that occurs without consent. It includes a range of behaviors from unwanted touching to rape.
Consent – A clear, voluntary, and informed agreement to participate in sexual activity. Consent can be withdrawn at any time and cannot be given when someone is incapacitated by alcohol, drugs, or coercion.
Sexual Harassment – Unwanted sexual attention, advances, or comments that make someone feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or degraded.
SANE Exam – A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam is a medical and forensic process that provides care, collects evidence (if desired), and supports survivors after an assault. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Advocacy and Support
Our trained advocates offer nonjudgmental emotional support, information, and safety planning to help you regain control and make the choices that are right for you.
Criminal Justice and Legal Support
We can accompany you to police interviews, court hearings, or meetings with prosecutors. Our advocates explain the legal process, help you understand your rights, and ensure your voice is heard.
Emergency Shelter
Survivors needing a safe place to stay can access our confidential Shelter Facility, where we provide housing, support, and assistance with rebuilding safety and stability.
Medical Accompaniment (SANE Exams)
If you choose to have a sexual assault forensic exam (SANE exam), a New Day advocate can meet you at the hospital to provide comfort, information, and advocacy during the process.
Referrals and Resources
We connect survivors with counseling, medical care, housing support, financial assistance, and other community resources that can aid in recovery and independence.
